Last night the Democratic town committees from Shelburne, Charlotte and South Burlington hosted a meet and greet type forum for senate Democratic candidates at the cozy Town Tavern in Shelburne.
All 6 candidates-Michael Sirotkin, Tim Ashe, Ginny Lyons, David Zuckerman, Dawn Ellis, and Phil Baruth-attended and were given 5 minutes for introductions followed by a spirited Q&A. Topics included property taxes, health care, marijuana, universal back ground checks for firearms, death with dignity, budget cuts, campaign finance, child abuse, earned sick days and more. Michael was able to explain the importance of careful Statehouse strategy and grass roots in passing controversial affirmative legislation, having successfully advocated for many progressive pieces of legislation over his years in Montpelier. There was definitely good energy in the room as evidenced by the fact that all candidates and most in the room lingered well beyond the scheduled ending time continuing to talk politics and policy.
